I enjoy doing the research each morning. Every day is different, obviously. For iconic, it's hard to beat Robert Engund as Freddy Kruger and I'd say Paul Giamatti is the actor best known when not in make-up. As often happens, I run across the names of actors I didn't know were dead, and that was the case with all three, Cheryl Smith, David Dukes and Richard Paul. If I was just being a Whedonverse nerd, I might give the Picture Slot to Danny Strong, but following the Game of Thrones is trump rule while the show airs, we get Ellie Kendrick as Meera Reed, one of Bran Stark's protectors.

Best wishes to the living on the list and to the dead, thanks for all the memories.

Predictor: Dr. Paul Ehrlich, speaking on the first Earth Day in 1970

Prediction: "...in ten years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct. Large areas of coastline will have to be evacuated because of the stench of dead fish."

Reality: It's amazing this guy was taken seriously back in the day and even now, organizations are giving him honors. He gets one last prediction next week, and it stinks as bad as the rest.

  1. Predictors of Doom have a pretty sweet gig. The crisis-driven 24 hour news cycle, especially, is in constant need of high-volume scary stories to pump up ratings, and even more than pundits, PoD's NEVER, EVER have to fess up to their half-baked predictions. If it comes true, they will be hailed as the New Nostradamus; if not (a much more likely outcome) they can claim that their hysterical screeching helped avert the catastrophe.

For instance; I have been talking about the Zompocalypse for years. Fortunately, the breathers have made some strides in fighting the undead hordes (especially in raising awareness through documentary series like The Walking Dead) and so far, it hasn't happened. You're welcome!

    1. I would not that the prophets of doom about global warming and climate change are getting a major pushback. It will be interesting to see if anything can be done with one major party in this country fighting it tooth and nail.

As for your warnings about the Zompocalypse, thanks for your years of service.

    2. Wish I could edit instead of delete. I meant "note" instead of "not" for the third word.

    3. I would differntiate the people predicting global warming, climate change and the resulting damage from Predictors of Doom in a couple of ways:

      1. They are actually scientists, and they are working in their fields of experience.

      2. Their predictions are coming true. If anything, the reality is shaping up to be WORSE.

    4. Ehrlich had his degree on biology and specialized in population studies.
