Reality: Let's remember that this is before the Wright Brothers get airborne in 1903, so the artist can be forgiven for underestimating the size of the rotor blade necessary to achieve enough upward thrust to fly.
I often mock the French. I am an American and it is an important part of our cultural heritage. But if John Elfreth Watkins described this in one of his predictions, I'd likely give him full points, so it's only fair to give credit where credit is due. Even to the French.

Many of the predictions from the early 1900s take an optimistic view of what's to come, but tomorrow we will meet a dark futurist whose 1907 book about the future foresaw a brutal class war. His name is Jack London.
