Bette Davis b. 1908 died 6 October 1989 (Wicked Stepmother, The Watcher in the Woods, Return from Witch Mountain)

Quite a collection on today's birthday list. On the oldest end of our list, we have two honest two Zeus movie stars in Bette Davis and Gregory Peck who did a little slumming at the end of their careers. At the youngest, several fabulous babes including Krista Allen, who was able to stay in the business after starting out in softcore porn. In the middle of the list, it's mainly actors who did most of their work on TV, including Frank Gorshin in the Picture Slot. I also considered Mitch Pileggi from The X-Files, the prolific producer Roger Corman and Lana Clarkson, who is sadly now known as Phil Spector's murder victim.

Many happy returns to all the living on the list, and to the dead, thanks for all the memories.

First Contact Day
In the Star Trek universe, the Vulcans show up on Earth on 5 April, 2013. This prediction date is beyond the time limit I set, but it's important to the fans, so I will mark the day each year.

Predictor: Iron Sky, released April 2012 in Europe

Prediction: In 2018, an expedition to the dark side of the moon discovers a Nazi base built in 1945.

Reality: This odd little film, produced by companies from Finland, Germany and Australia, is more of an alternate timeline speculative fiction than an actual prediction.

Unless... the Germans did build a base on the dark side of the moon and NASA is just keeping the information hidden from us!

No, wait, this is called Reality. The movie is just fiction.

Looking one day ahead... INTO THE FUTURE!

Since our friends from 1893 got pre-empted today, I'm going to move them to the Sunday slot and avoid a nuclear war story this week.

Join us then... IN THE FUTURE!

  1. I would be tempted to include the 1956 film Moby Dick in the Peck credits. The screenplay was written by Ray Bradbury and certainly included some surreal scenes. Robert Bloch was one of my favorite writers when I was young; Tales in a Jugular Vein comes to mind.

  2. What is the earliest "Secret Nazis in Space" story? I know of a novel, "Terminal Freedom" from 1997 in which the Nazis went to Venus in the 1950s, funded unwittingly by the US government who thought THEY were going to get the rockets.

    1. It's not "secret", but PKD's Man in the High Castle has the Nazis building rockets to the stars.

  3. The movie is just fiction.

    sez you.

One of the best parts is where the Nazi scientist uses an iPhone to provide computing power for the entire invasion fleet.

  4. Trying to add Emmanuelle, Queen of the Galaxy to my Netflix queue. Purely as research, of course.

Waiting for zombie rotten mcdonald to explain that SURF NAZIS MUST DIE was a documentary, not just a better version of a Michael Bay film.
