Anne Meara, comedienne, actress and writer, died this weekend at the age of 85. She is survived by her comedy partner Jerry Stiller, to whom she was married for 61 years, and her daughter Amy and her son, actor and writer Ben Stiller.
Stiller and Meara started in improv comedy with the Compass Players, which later became known as Second City. Their act gained national attention largely due to performances on the The Ed Sullivan Show. Later in their career, they made ads for Blue Nun wine and both took acting jobs separate from the act.
Ms. Meara is remembered her for roles in comedy genre like ALF and Night at the Museum, not the only movie starring her son Ben where she was cast, and non-comedy genre including the TV show Time Express and the movie The Boys from Brazil.
Best wishes to the family and friends of Anne Meara, from a fan. She is never to be forgotten.
The LA Times apparently headlined it, "Anne Meara, mother of Ben Stiller..."
ReplyDeleteThose of us Of A Certain Age feel another arrow targeting our memory.
Because Ben is a movie star and Jerry was on Seinfeld, Anne is best remembered by Those of Us, sadly enough. She had a heck of a career.
