Richard Schaal, the actor who started in Chicago's Second City improv troupe back in the 1960s, died on Tuesday at the age of 86. He played multiple parts on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, including Chuckles the Clown once, and also worked on the spinoffs Phyllis and Rhoda. He was married to Valerie Harper from 1964 to 1978.
He is remembered here for roles in Once Bitten with Jim Carrey, a guest shot on I Dream of Jeannie and pictured here as Howard W. Campbell in Slaughterhouse-Five. Campbell is an American born Nazi propagandist with a minor role in Slaughterhouse-Five, but is the protagonist of Vonnegut's Mother Night. (In the movie version of that book, Nick Nolte plays Campbell.)
Best wishes to the family and friends of Richard Schaal, from a fan. He is never to be forgotten.
